A
growing number of donors are seeking ways of involving themselves in
development projects in Pakistan. They ask: Is there a support
organization that functions as an interface between these two sectors? Linking
NGOs with donors is a challenging task. PCP is the only philanthropy
centre in Pakistan whose programmatic interventions are expressly geared
towards tapering the divide between grant-makers and grant-seekers. We strive to:
We
operate as a doorway for donors, conduits, foundations and market places,
across the world, by sponsoring projects for easy access to the certified
NPOs in Pakistan. Our support services
provide
donor-oriented menu of options and grant management services so our
clients can invest where their giving will change the most lives while
also giving them the satisfaction of getting first hand information on the
utilisation of their grant funds and the impact created. We
are vigilant about your grants— less
waste and greater effectiveness being our operating principle!
Therefore we only recommend organizations that have been through the rigorous
certification process and have been critically evaluated
against the strict parameters
in the areas of internal governance, programme delivery, financial
transparency, documentation, disclosure, accountability and organizational
effectiveness.
Till date we have certified 107 NPOs after critical evaluations.
We
now intend to bring this vibrant credible group
to the forefront for international donor community for optimal benefits
for their donations. …
grant facilitation The
year 2005 witnessed the Centre attracting attention of international
grant-making organisations for assistance in identification of credible
NPOs for effective implementation of relief, rehabilitation and
reconstruction efforts in the earth-quake hit areas. This resulted in two dynamic partnerships with Give2Asia
and the Pearson Foundation which generated more
than $ 1 million in grants for the earthquake affected communities. We
have now taken this initiative forward and developed a full-fledged programme
of grant facilitation for donors.
We are the implementing partner and projects sponsor for major international conduits like Give2Asia and GlobalGiving. Following are the services PCP has core competence in:
PCP
is the project sponsor for GlobalGiving
-- a US-based online development marketplace. This collaboration allows us
to provide
support mechanisms to credible NPOs in Pakistan, one that offers minimised
structural barriers leading to a more conducive funding environment. PCP
is a primary avenue for GlobalGiving to screen projects
for social impact, credibility and legitimacy. After conducting thorough
internal review, we recommend projects to be posted on the
GlobalGiving website where they become eligible for receiving
gradual donations depending upon donor discretion. However,
the final decision of selection of projects lies with GlobalGiving.

PCP has collaborated with The Asia Foundation (TAF) and Give2Asia, a U.S nonprofit initiative of TAF to establish the “Give2Asia-Pakistan Earthquake Fund” (PEF). PEF is an effort to mobilise funding from international foundations, associations, corporations and the diaspora in the USA to support e-quake relief and rehabilitation. PCP
is involved in identifying credible nonprofit organisations, preferably
those that are certified, for award of grants to provide reconstruction
and rehabilitation in quake affected areas.
The fund has so far mobilised a total of $ 632,072. See
a list of recipients. …Petra
Nemcova’s Happy Hearts Fund In
its efforts to facilitate international philanthropy, PCP through its
linkages with Give 2 Asia, assisted super model and the founder of Happy
Hearts Fund; Petra Nemcova, in visiting the e-quake areas in Pakistan.
Petra came to Pakistan with a special focus on supporting children
projects. Petra
along with Ms. Leilani Johnson and Mr. Benedict Redgrove of Happy Hearts
Fund visited Jalabad, Gorhi, Garhi Duppatta, Embore in Muzaffarabad and
Abottabad. She has pledged to support the construction of one school by
The Citizen’s Foudnation and remains committed to raise additional
funding for the earthquake affected children in Pakistan through her
linkages. A Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova established the Happy Hearts Fund at G2A to aid children in need who have suffered from natural disasters and other causes. The Fund's initial focus is helping children affected by the December 2004 tsunami, in Thailand, where Petra and her boyfriend were vacationing that fateful morning, as well as Aceh, Sri Lanka and India. Pearson
PLC, the publishers of the The Financial Times, London also approached the
Centre for assistance in routing donations for the earthquake victims to
credible NPOs in Pakistan. PCP is the implementing partner for the Pearson
Pakistan Earthquake Fund and is involved in identifying organisations,
vetting proposals, monitoring and evaluation and reporting back to Pearson
PLC on the utilisation of the $201,250 grant along with day-to-day
management of their fund. Pearson’s
focus was specifically on education and health projects for children and
PCP facilitated them by connecting them with four NPOs: Read
Foundation, Aman
Foundation, Area
Development Organisation and Bunyad.
…
General Support Recognising
PCP’s expertise and knowledge of the NPO sector, the government's
Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) contacted
the Centre with a request to conduct a validation survey of all NPOs
working in the e-quake areas. This database of CSOs contributing to
rehabilitation and reconstruction would hopefully pave the way for an
effective reconstruction strategy and identify future areas of cooperation
between CSOs, government and donor agencies. Additionally,
representatives of the USA Fund for South Asia Earthquake (sponsored at
President Bush's initiative by CEOs of five leading US multi-national
corporations) approached PCP to explore a partnership for monitoring of
their grants to Pakistani NPOs. The
Centre also facilitated HRH Princess Sarwath El Hassan in identifying a
credible NPO as the recipient of a grant for reconstruction of schools in
the earthquake affected areas in AJK. These
are indicators of the growing recognition of the professional capabilities
of the Centre and its placement as a credible information source on the
citizen sector.
